BECOME A WILD ONES AMBASSADOR

This  workshop is to help Wild Ones members become more confident when sharing our educational mission. We'll review all the resources we offer and provide suggestions on how to answer frequently asked questions. The goal is for Wild Ones Twin Cities to have a pool of members we can call on to staff educational outreach tables throughout the year.

Workshop  is free but registration in required. For more information and to register, email info@wildonestwincities.org. An outreach volunteer will contact you to answer any questions and confirm your registration.

Spring Native Plant Resource Fair

Indoor and Outdoor Activities

Wood Lake Nature Center, Richfield MN

Wild Ones Twin Cities has invited professional native plant landscape designers, experienced Wild Ones members and partnering organizations who share our mission to offer tips and answer questions on native plant habitat gardening. Information will be available on plant selection, garden site care, landscape design, climate resilience and flora fauna associations. In addition to tabled activities indoors we are offering a naturalist led walking tour and demonstrations on how to bare root plants, what to do with winter sown seedlings and how to tell the difference between European and Asian earthworms.

The Spring Resource Fair is our chance to show the greater community who Wild Ones is and what we have to offer. There are many, many opportunities for members to help, from set up and tear down to greeters, educational outreach and hands on demonstrations. Click HERE to volunteer or contact Julia Vanatta for more information.

Nokomis Naturescape Gardening Session

Happy Spring! This first gardening will be about welcoming new volunteers, getting reacquainted with each other and the Nokomis Naturescape Boulevard Garden. We’ll take a garden tour and do some gardening care - including selective trimming and tidying - all with pollinators in mind. Contact Vicki Bonk for more information.

Spring ephemerals are the first to appear in the spring for a brief and brilliant window of magic They can also be somewhat tricky to propagate. In this presentation, Patrick Maun will go over different approaches to gathering, starting seed and division of roots. Patrick will talk about what’s worked over the years for him, and how you can start getting ready for the upcoming season.

So you've decided to jump into natural gardening but not sure where to start? Andy will cover native garden basics including site preparation, plant selection, planning basics and long term care to help your project succeed. He'll also highlight unique, under-utilized native species and landscape techniques that can help your garden setting become balanced and resilient.

About the Speaker:

In 2017, Andy shifted career focus to pursue his passion for nature and gardening to start his small native landscape and design business. Located in Bloomington, he utilized his own property to better understand how native plants respond to an urban garden setting and developed a natural approach to convert lawn and wasted space to wildlife-friendly gardens. These spaces support beneficial insects, birds and other wildlife while also creating healthy soil and conserving water. Education driven, Andy likes to involve his clients in all aspects of the process and helps provide resources to learn about and demystify the plant/pollinator relationships that their landscape will be fostering.

 ReWild Gardens creates natural spaces that beautify the landscape while also supporting a myriad of important native pollinator and bird species. Gardens that utilize native plants (and wildlife-friendly practices) not only provide nectar and pollen but also act as hosts for butterflies and bees – giving them support for their entire life cycle. ReWild provides planning, installation and maintenance services for new and established wildlife-friendly natural plantings in the metro area.
